Gheorghe Ionita
Mr. Gheorghe Ionita obtained his PhD in Physics in 1997, specializing in Nuclear Energy at the Institute of Atomic Physics in Bucharest, with a thesis entitled: “Separation of hydrogen isotopes by catalytic isotopic exchange, water-hydrogen.” He is a graduate of the Faculty of Chemical Technology at the “Gheorghe Asachi” Polytechnic Institute in Iasi. He subsequently completed several postgraduate courses in the field of radioisotope separation and use, catalysts and catalytic process engineering, as well as a research internship (1999-2001) in the nuclear field at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan.
He has extensive managerial experience in the nuclear and research fields, having served as president of the National Agency for Radioactive Waste (2005-2009), president of CNCAN (2020-2021), and president of the Scientific Council of ICSI RmValcea (2012-2024). As a first-degree scientific researcher, he was Director of the Nuclear Program and of several complex research projects, the results of his own research materialised in over 30 scientific articles, 90 international and national conferences and 6 (six) invention patents, 3 (three) of which relate to heavy water detritiation and tritium separation technology.
