Nuclearelectrica and Valahia University Launch the Advanced Technologies for the Nuclear Industry Master’s Program
Bucharest, April 17, 2026
Nuclearelectrica and Valahia University in Târgoviște have established, within the field of master’s studies in energy engineering, the master’s program Advanced Technologies for the Nuclear Industry, which will be available starting the 2026–2027 academic year.
The master’s program consists of 120 transferable credits and will be taught in English. The objective of establishing this master’s program is to capitalize on the opportunity to develop specialists in advanced nuclear technologies for the nuclear industry, small modular reactors, in essence, the concrete implementation of an educational opportunity that will lead to the training of a generation of specialists in advanced technologies, capable of supporting, through applied specialization, the implementation and operation of these technologies in the medium and long term.
The development of the small modular reactor project in Doicești creates the framework for training new nuclear energy specialists at the national level, thereby enabling Romania to position itself advantageously in a field of major European and international interest—achieving economies of scale in the commercial use of advanced nuclear technologies.
“We created this program for young people who want to work in a field that truly matters for the future. The nuclear industry means cutting-edge technology, concrete projects, and a direct positive impact on the environment and society. It’s a place where you can continuously learn, work alongside passionate people, and contribute to one of the cleanest energy sources available today. We’re reaching out to young people who enjoy solving problems, thinking logically, and being part of an elite industry. The future of energy needs people who are curious, ambitious, and ready to make a difference. Beyond the technology, there is also a unique satisfaction in knowing that your work supports a balance between progress and environmental protection, in a field that inspires respect, discipline, and passion anywhere in the world. – Cosmin Ghiță, General Manager of Nuclearelectrica
Nuclearelectrica’s human resources strategy takes a comprehensive approach to identifying, training, retaining, and developing talent—an aspect we consider essential and which is closely tied to the company’s investment strategy.
“Over the past two years, we have established or renewed partnerships with 10 universities across the country, where we organize specialized events and workshops led by our colleagues with technical expertise. The implementation of master’s programs in the nuclear industry, such as the one in partnership with Valahia University in Târgoviște, focuses on in-depth specialization, going beyond the concepts covered in the bachelor’s program. As a nuclear operator with extensive experience and a track record of international performance, we know that human resources are just as important as technology. Both are the guarantee of a very high level of nuclear safety, and we will do everything in our power to strategically develop this resource, from the very beginning. I would like to thank Valahia University in Târgoviște for its commitment and initiative, but especially for the fact that, together—as an operator and an educational institution—we are laying the foundations for applied education, which is so necessary now and in the future.” – Cosmin Ghiță, General Manager of Nuclearelectrica
Nuclearelectrica will continue to be directly involved in skills development through ambitious goals related to partnerships with educational institutions, the launch of new educational programs, participation in career guidance events, as well as the continuation of scholarship, internship, and work-study programs.
The high level of complexity and uniqueness of work in the nuclear field, the strict regulations stemming from the need to ensure nuclear safety, the number, scope, and importance of strategic investment projects, as well as the best-practice requirements of international bodies in the field are the guiding principles for Nuclearelectrica’s human resources strategy for the next decade.
