Environment management process

The environmental management process is developed and applied by CNE Cemavoda to ensure environmental protection and control during activities with potential environmental impact.

CNE Cernavoda has established and implemented specific requirements that lead to the reduction of the impact on the environment as a result of the development of the plant’s activities.

The requirements established by CNE Cernavoda derive both from the application of the regulations specific to the nuclear field and the environmental legislation, as well as from the voluntary adherence to the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 standard and the requirements of the EMAS Regulations.

CNE Cernavoda has established clear principles that are the basis for carrying out activities that may have an impact on the environment. Listed below are some of them:

  • The preparation and performance of any activity will be analyzed from the point of view of:
    • Effects on ecosystems;
    • Efficient use of energy and resources;
    • Pollution prevention.
  • CNE Cernavoda ensures:
    • Implementation of environmental legislative requirements in all plant processes;
    • The preparation, encouragement and responsibility of the entire staff for the performance of all activities so that the impact on the environment is reduced to the minimum possible;
    • Evaluation of environmental performance and continuous and efficient communication with interested civil organizations, the local community and regulatory and control authorities regarding the continuous improvement of environmental performance.
    • The impact on the environment is established based on the evaluation of each activity and for each work.

The first certification of the environmental system was obtained in 2004, and the first registration in EMAS in 2018, their maintenance being done annually. The maintenance of the two certifications is a proof and a guarantee of the fulfillment of the commitments assumed by CNE Cernavoda.
